THE PROPERTY

The Grade II* listed Whiddon Park House in its current form was probably completed at the turn of the 16th Century and indeed there is a date plaque of 1649 over the front door. It was the seat of the Whyddon family who also created the wonderful deer park which adjoins the property. The three storey façade is of granite ashlar with mullioned windows. The principal rooms face east over the enclose front gardens and contain open fireplaces with granite surrounds. Behind the house a thatched barn provides good outside storage for garaging, garden machinery and stabling. A line of mature beech trees separates the parking area at the rear of the house from a small paddock area, currently partly used as a vegetable garden.

SITUATION

Whiddon Park House is located in the beautiful National Trust estate surrounding Castle Drogo in the Teign valley on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. It is a quiet setting at the end of a private lane with access into the Whiddon Deer Park and to the riverside walks along the wooded banks of the River Teign. The ancient stannary town of Chagford is just over one mile away where there is a wide variety of day to day and specialist shops, pubs and restaurants. There is also good schooling, parish church, chapel and Roman Catholic church. For wider facilities, Exeter is easily accessible via the A30 dual carriageway.
